Education

1980-1984 Bachelor, Department of Pharmacology, Aristotle’s University of Thessaloniki.

1984-1990 PhD in Mol. Biology, Dept of Biology, University of Crete.

Career

1990-1995 Postdoctoral Research, Dept. of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, U.S.A.

1996-2010 Assistant, Associate and Research Professor, Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Foundation for Research and Technology, Heraklion, Crete.

2011-  Ass. Professor of Biochemistry, Department of Biology, University of Crete.

Scientific interests

We use model gene networks in yeast cells to study a) the dynamics of basic transcriptional regulation, b) the molecular base of epigenetic inheritance of transcriptional states, and c) the mechanism(s) underlying age-related changes in cellular function and gene expression. Current projects include studies on global transcriptional co-activators and co-repressors, chromatin mediated transcriptional regulation, on molecular mechanism(s) underlying epigenetic transmission of cellular memory and studies on the asymmetric inheritance of damaged macromolecules upon cellular aging.
