Objectives of the course (preferably expressed in terms of learning outcomes and competences): To learn the fundamentals of nerve cell and brain function.
Course contents: Brain anatomy and organization. Electrical properties of neurons. Ion channels. Firing patters and information coding in neurons. Neurotranmitter systems. Synaptic transmission, synaptic plasticity, learning and memory. Sensory information processing in higher brain areas, perception. Motor system. Neurological disorders, schizophrenia, depression, addiction.
