Objectives of the course (preferably expressed in terms of learning outcomes and competences): Introducing students to the basic theoretical aspects of programming and the structure of simple Algorithms. Principal elements of Programming in Perl and MATLAB with focus on biological applications.
Course contents: Introduction to Programming Theory: Structure of Algorithms, Flow diagrams and pseudo-code. Introduction to Perl: Types of variables, input-output, conditional structures, loop-processes, subroutines, randomization techniques. MATLAB: Introduction to MATLAB, programming with MATLAB, graphics.
